“Home as an Extension of the Self”
The film ‘Home as an Extension of the Self’ from La Casa series focuses on the relationship between women and the domestic space, and its subversion. Divided into three chapters (holes, stains, and smells), the film was made in collaboration with videographer Maco Diaz, cross-disciplinary artist Catalina Quintana, and photographer Gabriel Gómez. Inspired by Julia Kristeva’s concept of abjection and Mikhail Bakhtin’s theory of the grotesque, it investigates the process of aging and decay through the presence of holes, stains, and smells in the house, the subject, and the clothes. The doll and the masks were specially produced for the project, using found objects and old garments; rags with holes, dust, and odors that like the house and body show signs of time.
