“Home, A Metaphor of the Mind”
This is a haunted house. Fears, anxieties, and desires and hidden behind its doors. Repressed memories wander like ghosts. The blurred boundaries between the house, the body, and the psyche are the focal points of this film by Maco Diaz, Daniela Benaim, and Catalina Quintana. An ode to the Venezuelan classic radio show Nuestro Insólito Universo (Our Unusual Universe), in which the host Porfirio Torresnarrates strange, but real-life mysteries, it tells the fictional story of Nancy Quintana, a migrantwoman who, after fainting, wakes up in her childhood home, surrounded by spectres of the past.
The sets recreate installations by Edward and Nancy Kienholz, such as The Wait (1964-65), The Soup Course at She-She Café (1982), and In the Infield Was Patty Peccavi (1981). There are also references to Marisol Escobar’s sculptures.
